Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury - Honestly forgot this even came out in 2021, not for any negative reason just because it was earlier in the year and a lot has gone on since then lol. just regular old Mario Party fun! Played many an hour of this multiplayer and even though it's just an all star collection it's still just as fun as before.Ħ. Mario Party Superstars - How good is it to finally be able to play a Mario Party game again with just a regular controller? No gimmicks, no stupid 'catch'. It's a way the mainline games never could and that is what makes Snap special IMO.ĥ. New Pokemon Snap - For so many years we wished for the Snap sequel and now we finally got it, and it was pretty good! The amount of detail and care that went into bringing the Pokemon to life is awesome. I happily 100%'ed the game from start to finish, seriously couldn't put it down.Ĥ. when I learned the dev was now making a new game called Astalon it instantly went to the top of my wishlist! Turns out it's the perfect CitD 'successor' I could have wanted! In a sea of retro-style look Metroidvania type games Astalon stands above with a charm and beautiful look, tight gameplay, a world you'll get absolutely addicted to exploring and a soundtrack you'll be humming for days. A wonderful game that sadly gets little fanfare, stuck on Steam for some reason. Astalon: Tears of the Earth - I've been an avid championer of Castle in the Darkness for many years now. And the OST! Oh wow, OST of the year for sure.Īs I said at the start this was my first SMT game, and now I'm a fan for life!ģ. I would fully clean out the areas then genuinely get excited to move on to the next. But most of all I LOVED the exploration! Jumping around the world collecting things and finding monsters to recruit (another fun part, bargaining with the monsters!) never got old to me. Shin Megami Tensei V - My first SMT game and boy did I fall in love! Everything is so cool, the atmosphere, the style, wonderful! The battle system clicked with me so quickly, I absolutely adore the beautifully designed creatures taken from real world legends aspect. Overall Samus is back and I LOVED it, keep this formula going and imagine if we can have awesome new 2D and 3D adventures for her at the same time again! So happy. But I never felt like those moments detracted from the game, they were just a small part of a larger adventure, they got the mix right! Maybe my only real gripe is the same thing many people had and that is the music being not memorable, which is probably heightened by the series usually having an AMAZING OST. The EMMI stuff was a nice 'break' in the middle of a regular Metroid adventure I feel, and I genuinely felt scared at times being chased by them haha. Aiming takes a bit to get use to but Samus moves SO smoothly the game really is just a joy to play. This is helped by just how good they managed to get the controls right. By the end when you're dashing/spinning all over the place, after starting out fairly vulnerable you really get a sense of power. The return of 2D Metroid in a new entry had a lot to live up to but I think they nailed it with a world that is really fun to explore mixed with abilities/power ups that just heighten that fun. not a surprise because of the quality (that is expected from the franchise), but because of THE NAME! METROID DREAD IS REAL HAHA! Metroid Dread - The best game of the year and the most surprise release of the year!.
